level 1: primary

Level 1 guides are recommended for a range of primary (grades 2 and 3) students who have acquired the foundational skills to independently read and respond to a simple piece of literature. Each guide is designed to be completed in five weeks, which allows students to work through six to eight units in a typical school year.

Begin Level 1 with our high interest stories for emergent readers, Flat Stanley, Donovan's Word Jar, My Name is Maria Isabel, and Tornado. Move from here to stories that are slightly more complex, The Iron Giant, The Hundred Dresses, My Father's Dragon, and Stone Fox. With these completed, any of the remaining titles are appropriate to help your student bridge to Level 2. Be sure to carve time in the schedule for Love That Dog so your students can discover the wonder of poetry alongside Jack, the witty protagonist.

You save when you purchase a the guide and book together!
