“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope.”

—Winston Churchill

Simply, Merry Christmas

For our families this year, the Christmas mantra has been S-I-M-P-L-I-F-Y! It’s such an easy concept but quite a challenging reality in the midst of raising and educating children, nurturing businesses, pursuing higher degrees, keeping a household going, tending relationships, and pressing in where we feel we can make a difference. So many great, worthy, and noble things beckon as we desire to keep old traditions alive and start new ones. So many choices are available to us that are good, but this year we are allowing ourselves to admit we can't do it all. It's okay to not fill every moment with an activity or commitment as in seasons past. We're allowing ourselves to rest, notice, wait, and wonder about the unique story that is Christmas, and we invite you to do the same.

Quite “simply,” we’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas! However you choose to celebrate this season, may it be filled with joy and some space to wonder at all the beauty and good gifts around us.

We are so grateful for each one of you for contributing to Blackbird & Company’s best year yet. It is our hope that our products have enriched and inspired your family’s learning. Much is in the works for next year including new literature titles, observation journal and research project resources, and most exciting, a new blog!

We look forward to connecting with you some way in 2010, whether it be at a conference, via email or on our blog.

Tracey, Brian, Kim, and Willie

P.S. Don’t forget to enter our drawing. We’re giving away three literature bundles, and one could be yours. The odds are good! In the spirit of findng space, we’ve extended the deadline until January 15th.

As a reminder, we want you to send us photos or writing of anything literature or poetry guide related—original poems, photos of final projects, snapshots of your book club, or creative activities you have been inspired to do. Everyone who sends us something will be entered into a drawing for a free Level 1, 2 or 3 bundle (or $20 off any Earlybird bundle).

We will be giving away three literature bundles so start sending us your best stuff!

Photos and writing may be submitted via email to takeflight@blackbirdandco.com or posted to our flickr group pool.

Entries will be accepted through January 15, 2010 and the drawing will take place on January 16, 2010. We will contact you by email if you are a winner!

Good luck and thanks for sharing!
